7 Ways to Prepare for Your Window Replacement
You did all the planning to get replacement windows but what about when installation day comes? People often overlook some minor details before window replacement installation day. Here are some of our top tips at Marvin Replacement to help your installation day go smoothly.
Disable Security Systems
A window installation crew will have to go in and out of your house several times during installation so don’t forget to disable your security alarm system.
Remove Window Treatments
It makes sense to remove window treatments before installation day but it can easily get overlooked during other preparation leading up to the window install.
Move Fragile Objects
Accidents, although rare, can happen and it’s a good idea to remove any fragile objects that might be in the path you clear for the crew to get to the windows.
Clear a Path to the Windows
You’ll want to clear a path for the crew to get to your windows. It’s likely they’ll use it multiple times during an install so make sure it’s wide enough for them to pass through.
Clear a Path to the House
It’s important to clear a path to your house from the outside, too. Remove any potential obstacles and keep the path clear from any items that could cause someone to trip.
Talk about Crew Accommodations
Installation times can vary and you’ll have a good idea of how long it will take before the installation crew arrives, but you’ll want to talk with your project manager about anything the crew might need. You shouldn’t feel like you need to provide refreshments or let crews use your bathroom.
Talk to Neighbors About Installation Times
Window replacement does generate some noise so it’s a good idea to talk with your neighbors ahead of time to let them know when the installation crew will arrive. Neighbors can have different work schedules and some don’t like surprises.
Our installation teams can start as early as 8 or 9 a.m. for morning installations and afternoon installs can typically start around noon to 1 p.m.
FAQs
How long does it take to install new windows?
A two-person crew can usually replace a small to average sized insert window in about an hour. A full-frame window replacement can take several hours, depending on the trim and any repair work needed.
Is a permit required?
Permitting requirements vary by community. Marvin Replacement will work to obtain all the necessary permits for your window installation or replacement patio door project.
How messy is a window replacement?
Window replacement can create dust, dirt, and debris. Marvin Replacement installers work to limit the mess by using drop cloths in installation areas to protect flooring. Installers will also use drop cloths for furniture and tarps outside to protect shrubbery and landscaping. They can also use zip walls, if necessary. They will also clean the work area after installation and a project manager will conduct a final walkthrough.
What happens after a home window replacement?
After your window replacement installation is complete, the crew will clean up the work area. A Marvin Replacement project manager will complete a final walkthrough to ensure everything is to your satisfaction and your windows are operating as they should. The project manager will inspect the windows to check for any gaps between the window frame and wall. You can also follow up with your customer success manager for any service requests.
